Undoubtedly, the best vacation I have ever had. I was actually sad when I was driving home this morning. Sad and resentful. Sad because I didn’t want it to end and resentful because I could not stand the thought of going back to my job on Monday. Then, I had to get a hold of myself rather quickly. If it wasn’t for my job I wouldn’t have been able to enjoy the week at the beach. So I asked God to forgive me and I thanked him profusely for blessing me with my job and for my week at the beach.
I bet you’re wondering, what is so special about a week at the beach? When I told people that I was going to the Outer Banks some replied, “You do realize that you live in a resort area, right?” Yes, I did realize it. But my house isn’t within walking distance of the oceanfront. And there is just something wonderfully relaxing about not being in your own home.
I love vacation. Beside the fact that there were no fluorescent lights and no email, there was no stress. We did have a brief flare-up when we first arrived but we smoothed it over quickly and kept it moving. I didn’t wear make-up the entire week. Instead of body lotion I put on sunscreen everyday. I didn’t have to respond to one single e-mail or return any phone calls. I love vacation.
Know what we did?
A whole lot of nothing. There’s plenty to do on the Outer Banks but I didn’t want to go down there with an agenda. No itineraries. I didn’t want to HAVE to do anything. I wanted to wake up everyday and just let the day unfold. And that’s what we did …
We stayed in a great house
We walked to the gym everyday because it was right across the street
We went to the beach everyday which was about a block away
I’m not a swimmer and it took me until Thursday, but I finally got in the water
We had some good food
And then we had some really good food
We went out for ice cream
I chilled on the deck
And listened to my guy play me a tune
It was the best. I’m going to miss our little beach house. I’m going to miss cocktail hour. I’ve already unpacked and checked my work email. I’m already back in the swing. But I’ll never forget my week at the beach and I can’t wait for the next one. I may even retire down there. I love the lifestyle of the “Beach People”. You know, the folks that wear sandals everyday. The folks that ride their bikes at 7:00 a.m. The ones that wave and smile when they see you sitting on the deck. The laid back people who appear not to have one single care in the world. I could certainly get used to that kind of living. I have some reflections to share but not just yet. Especially with the recent deaths of Far.rah Faw.cett and Mic.hael Jac.kson. I’m thinking more and more about the second half of my life.
I need for it to count.

Yes, Vacation is good. Yes indeed. And the best part is waking up without a plan. That's REAL vacation. I went on my first one less than 6 months ago, which is a shame. I plan on taking more in the future.
Glad you had a good time... It'd be cool to do that once a month, wouldn't it!!?
Awesome. Make it a tradition...every June you and yours go to the same beach house.
I don't want to think about hte second part of my life...but I guess I ought to.
Glad you had fun.
You look beautiful, and more importantly you sound like you're in a great place.
There is nothing wrong with thinking of your future either, and the blessings that are apparently already yours.
Glad you're back and safe, but I'm waiting on the deep stuff!
Your week looks like it was so much fun! I find really great stuff to do when I let the days unfold on vacation, too! Work it in that bikini, Diva!
Your pix, your vacation, time with your loved ones, your mental clarity...in a word; AWESOME.
I'm very happy for you.
love to live; live to love!
The vacation seemed to be great fun and good for you guys! The food looked good too. I see you got that body rockin'. Thanks for sharing the pictures...
I know that I'm late, b/c I'm trying to catch up on all the posts that I've missed but like everyone else said...I was awed by the bikini! You worked it!
