Let me just say this: There is nothing better than the feeling of accomplishment. Big things, small things, whatever … setting your mind on something and following it through to the end is the best high ever.
I guess I may have always known this but it seems that my accomplishments have been so few and far between that it never really sunk in.
I know in my everyday life I have accomplished plenty but it’s different when you go beyond the routine. It’s different when you go beyond what is expected. No one pats you on the back for doing what you’re supposed to do. Or they shouldn’t. I don’t want a medal for raising my kids. That’s my job. I don’t deserve applause for paying my bills on time.
My point is that when you decide to step out of your comfort zone and try something that may not be a slam dunk and you succeed … JOY rises. When I put together that daggone desk, my JOY rose. (I am not mechanically inclined and tools have never been my friend.) When I passed the Psych CLEP test this weekend, my JOY rose. Every single time I cross a finish line, my JOY rises. I am confirming that I can accomplish things outside of the expected.
I was feeling down on myself a few months ago because I just didn’t feel like I was even trying to reach my full potential. I was content with the status quo. Now I am reaching for more and actually succeeding and it feels so good.
Happy Monday!
