Open to the Possibilities

When I first decided to leave the corporate world and venture out on my own as a personal trainer I had a certain vision in my mind.  I saw myself coming downstairs to the fitness studio and having a steady stream of clients from 6:00 am until 6:00 pm.  I didn't see much else.

However, the reality of the situation is so much different.  I do train clients every day but I also lead boot camps and train clients virtually.  I spend a great deal of time creating workouts and meal plans not to mention the administrative work which includes marketing and networking events.

I've also discovered a market that I had not really considered when I first began: senior citizens.  It feels strange that I wouldn't have considered them since the reason why I'm into fitness is so I can maintain a healthy, strong body into old age.  But what about the seniors who didn't take great care of themselves early in life?  They need help.

This week I had the awesome opportunity to visit a retirement community and speak to the residents about the benefits of building a strong body and emphasizing that it is not too late to begin.  I can't even put into words how rewarding it was to be able to share this information.

The residents were very receptive and I was happy to show them some simple but effective exercises they can perform to help build their strength.

I'm happy to say that I've already set up another appointment with another senior community to discuss setting up regular classes with the residents.  I had no idea that my journey would take me in this direction but I'm happy that I was open to any and all possibilities.

I started this because I wanted to help people the way my trainer helped me three years ago.  I finally feel like I'm making a difference in another person's life.

There is no better feeling.
