Full Circle

I believe in life there are no mistakes – just lessons.  I take no credit for that revelation … I heard it somewhere.  Probably from Oprah.

Two years ago I walked away from my well-paying corporate gig because I wanted to take a chance and start a business that helped people to get and stay healthy.  I had the sincerest of intentions and even though I had plenty of enthusiasm I had a very weak plan.

Yesterday, I had a job interview with a local contractor because it is my desire to go back to the world of well-paying corporate gigs.  You see, helping folks that want to be helped is noble and I get so much enjoyment out of it but it’s not paying my mortgage.

I’ve actually come to the place where I’m happy about my decision.  I wasn’t at first.  At first I thought I was a big, fat failure.  I was embarrassed and I thought I had made a mistake 2 years ago and how come nobody told me not to do it???  First of all, no one told me not to do it because my people love me and didn’t want to shit on my dreams.  Secondly, even if they had I would have moved forward anyway.  Third, if I didn’t do it I would have spent the rest of my life asking “what if?” and who wants to live like that?

Not me.

So what’s the lesson?  Follow your dreams but recognize when it might be time to rethink a few things.  Make a plan and if that plan doesn’t work, make a new plan.  I’m still going to maintain my fitness certifications and run my business on a part-time basis because fitness is where my passion lies.  However, until passion pays the bills, I’m going to put on my suit and my heels and get that money.
