It is one of things that I am most proud of. Next to my children it was one of my greatest accomplishments.

I started writing this story back in 2001 and finally published it in 2004. I love this story. It is a great story. Not just because I wrote it … but because it is really a great story.
Three women who meet for the first time at their father’s funeral.
That’s it in a nutshell. You’d be surprised to know how long it took me to sum it up that succinctly. It took so long because it is really so much more. The story revolves around the lives of three women who have to reconcile themselves with the fact that their papa was a rolling stone. His actions had very long-lasting effects on all three women and now that he’s gone, they are wondering if they could possibly ever be friends, not to mention … family. They struggle with the fact that they are sisters yet they really know nothing about each other.
The story is fiction but was inspired by true events from my own life. My birth was the result of an affair between my mother and a married man. I found out about it when I was sixteen years old and I met him when I was nineteen. He died when I was twenty-nine. I met one of my sisters (from his first marriage) when I was in my thirties and I have yet to meet another sister (from his second marriage) face-to-face, but we have corresponded through e-mail (sort of).
Still with me?
I know very little about my mother’s relationship with my biological father. I had a lot of questions but I didn’t feel comfortable asking them so I made up a story about what I thought it would have been. Before the story was published I asked my mom to read it and give me her feedback. She gave me the green light to move forward which I really admired. If she had one single issue with the book it would never have seen the light of day.
Just about everyone in my immediate family has read it. I was reluctant about my biological father’s family reading it. Mainly because it doesn’t really paint them in a positive light. But then again, the book is fiction … I made all that stuff up. Well, most of it anyway. I traveled to Atlanta a few years ago and met most of them and the ones that read the book (my uncle and my brother) didn’t seem to have a problem. And even though I was an “outside child” they really welcomed me with open arms.
As I said, this is a great story and I would love to share it with one lucky person so I’m going to do a giveaway. This is easy. All you have to do is leave a comment and I’ll do a random drawing at the end of the week, the winner will receive an autographed copy. I’m hoping the lurkers will come out of hiding for this. You must be willing to provide your address in order to receive the book.
Good luck.
