Funkilicious

What's going on, ya'll?

I have been in a serious funk lately so instead of spreading the funk through blogging I decided to allow you all to bask in the glow of my list of happy ish. Besides, had I decided to blog it probably would have been a post full of profanity and nothing else. I think I'm in a better state of mind now and I will be able to write something worth reading.

Or not.

I find it interesting that HR feels it is acceptable to let someone go at 4:00 p.m. on Friday but they get their panties in a knot when someone decides to leave without notice. That's the joy of living in an "employment at will" state. Professional courtesy does not exist, at least not in any kind of official capacity.

My head hurts. Okay ... it's a tiny, little hangover.

I had a gig last night and I sang You Really Got a Hold on Me by Smokey Robinson. While I was singing I noticed this old, wrinkled up biker dude wearing a bandana. He was smiling and singing the words back to me. Stuff like that sounds weird but I like to know that the audience is at least listening. After the gig, he told me I sounded good and he liked my cleavage.

So much for connnecting with the audience.

I'm a "what's next?" kind of person. I'm uncomfortable not knowing where the path is leading. I need to know. Especially since I have two people who depend on me who are walking right behind me on this same path. Oftentimes, I find myself making decisions just so a damned decision can be made. Especially decisions that affect my money. About 15 years ago when I was pregnant with my daughter, I worked in a real estate appraiser's office. Another lady and I did the daily admin crap but we both noticed that it was a struggle to stay busy all day everyday. It was brutal. We didn't know what was going to happen. So, I went to the boss and asked him if I should plan NOT to return after I had the baby. It just made sense to me. The other lady had been there for years and I think I was there for one year at the time. I just wanted to know ahead of time so I could do some planning. Make sense? The boss told me to definitely plan to come back. A few weeks later the other lady was fired. Crazy.

Anyway, my point is that since I know I am ultimately responsible for bringing home the bacon (and cooking it too!) I don't want to be surprised by anything. If I have to make some moves, I will do just that. If you tell me that our revenue is dropping by half next year and you don't know where the company is going ... guess what? I know where I'm going.

I had a phone interview today.

We went to one of my favorite date night spots on Tuesday. The one that serves a combination of European and Asian cuisine. I love this place. I'm trying not to go too often because I don't want to get sick of it. They introduced their fall menu and I just fell in love with this place all over again. We had the same server as the first time we went and she remembered what I ordered from before and pointed out how it slightly changed on the fall menu.

I love service like that.

This time of year is always super busy in our office. I can't wait to get home tonight, make some comfort food, have a glass of wine, put my feet up and watch Sarah Palin make a complete fool of herself.

Letting someone go at 4pm Friday? Dang! Only thing worse is getting fired on your day off. LOL! But listen to this one. How about letting a person work 364 days of a 1 year probation period, then fire them after lunch on day 365 because they're considered "permanent" after 5pm.

A "tiny" hangover is like someone being only a "little" pregnant. LOL What you been dranking??

Good luck with your phone interview. I don't like living in unknown territory either. I'm always "planning" my next move.

You wrong for that last sentence, but I look forward to being entertained at 9pm - with popcorn and all. LOL

I must say that I have been looking forward to the same thing all day...I wish that I had planned earlier. I could've thrown a debate party.

I don't get off till 9. I hope Biden does well, cause I believe they are setting a trap. She couldnt be that stupid.

I know you blew the interviewer's dress off, so no need for luck. You got skills.

Ya'll need to stop hating on ol' Sarah... She did fine last night. Repubs prep their people well... She was a good pawn indeed! LOL!

That date night spot place... My goodness, that menu had a bit much going on. So much to choose from! I'm interested in knowing what you ordered for dinner!

I would love to hear you sing one day, Oldgirl. Really!

@Single Ma: I was drinking grey goose cosmos. The interview went well now it's on to the next step.

@LB: I only stayed completely awake for the first 30 minutes. After that it was a struggle. I got tired of them both not directly answering all the questions.

@lyre: She is that stupid. Thanks for the kind words.

@ladylee: I ordered the caprese salad and the blue crab cakes and a glass of pinot noir. YUMMY!!!

"So much for connecting with the audience."

That's funny!

I hate surprises too especially concerning employment.

Be prepared and be ready!
