The Choice
I'm reading The Choice and I love it just like I love all of Nicholas Sparks' novels. Even if the ending is kind of predictable (I read the last page), it's okay because everything that led up to that point was wonderful. His love stories kill me. They really kill me.
I'm still playing with the idea of writing a restaurant guide. I wrote two reviews yesterday and I have another one to do. The place we went to on date night was really good. It opened up about two months ago and it was surprisingly busy for a Tuesday night. I ordered cabernet chicken and B had the salmon and we were both extremely happy with our choices.
Right now I'm writing a monthly review for a local magazine and the publisher is less interested in good food and more interested in selling advertising. So, even if I hate a place I have to spin it so it sounds good. I don't lie ... I just don't mention the horrible food. I talk about the service, the atmosphere, the drinks, the entertainment blah, blah, blah. My creative ability is astounding. My restaurant guide will not include any place that I don't like. My BIG dream would be to update the book every year and have restaurants just dying to be included. For right now, the goal is to publish the first edition of Date Night in May 2010 because that's the start of the tourist season and by then I'll have at least a year's worth of material to choose from.

I have not even finished reading this post and I agree...Nicholas Sparks goes hard with his love stories. I can STILL watch/read The Notebook and cry like it is my first time. Love is love stories!
A restaurant guide sounds like a great idea Chele!!!!
Nonfiction is always a seller. I'd put it in my library! Maybe a guide with a flair to it. Eating vegetarian in VA! I'd buy it!
This is a great idea and it sounds like you're laying the foundation perfectly. If I'm ever in the area, I'd definitely check it out.
I'm sure that the guide will be excellent.
A restuarant guide sound great.
I just finished "At first Sight". that Nicholas Sparks can have you cryin' like a baby.
I've gone into stealth mode...I need email addy so...waiting.
The restaurant guide is a good idea, especially what you are writing about it. You are creative.
Love the idea. I am going to watch The Notebook now too. Glad to be semi-back.
You read the last page?! I don't get it.
The guide sounds like a great idea. I know you'll succeed. It's in you!
As a writer, I was wondering about the rights of your reviews. Are they yours even though other publishers are printing them now?
@ Believer: Before I finished the book I read ahead to find out what would happen. Regarding the reviews, the publisher owns them. Luckily, I eat out ALOT and many of the reviews that I put in my guide will not go to the magazine.
LOL. Chele, I cheat and read the last page too. My daughter shakes her head at me when I do it. LOL. I am learning not to jump ahead.
I am a sucka for Nick Sparks love stories. I have A Walk to Remember and The Notebook on DVD. Funny how I love his stories even when I can sometimes be cynical about love.
