What's Up for the Weekend?

So, I came out of class last night at almost 10:00 pm only to find that my car battery had died. Ugh! I knew something was wrong with the car because it was idling rough but I didn’t know that meant battery. Let’s hope that’s all it is. I immediately called my son and told him where I was and he came to my rescue. (Sidenote: I had to explain to someone last week that it doesn’t matter how independent I am, sometimes I still need someone to come to my rescue—and I’m okay with that. It’s a challenge finding a man that understands the concept.) I also called for roadside assistance (I’m paying for it anyway) and they told me it would take up to 45 minutes to get to me. The Prince was there in 20 minutes. He pulled out the jumper cables and his iPhone to double-check where everything needed to go and within minutes I was on the road again. I called roadside assistance and cancelled the call.

I was so grateful to that kid. I mean, he’s 22 … it’s a blessing that he was available, willing and knew what to do. He’s a good guy. Not just because he’s mine … he is really a good guy. I filled up his gas tank for his trouble. I got up bright and early this morning to get a new battery and was in and out of Advance Auto in 20 minutes.

The Princess sent me a picture of one of her returned papers with a big ole “A” in the corner.

Life is good, ya’ll.

I’m so looking forward to the weekend. You just don’t know. After work today I’m doing my post-fast grocery shopping. I know I talk about food a lot and if you didn’t know me, you’d probably think I weigh about 600 pounds. But I don’t.

It’s just that I really, really appreciate my food. It’s not just sustenance to me, it’s an experience. Anyway, on Sunday I’m making smothered pork chops, mashed potatoes and gravy, macaroni and cheese and collard greens. I’ll be adding neckbones to the collards for good measure. (What wine will I choose to pair with neckbones? LOL) For dessert I’m making this Mexican cheesecake – I know it has a real name but I can’t think of it – and it is delicious and really easy to make. Earlier in the day I’m going to treat myself to brunch and probably order a big omelet.

In the midst of all that I have to prep my house for the painters: take everything off the walls, take down the window treatments and remove the breakables. Work begins on Monday. I am so happy to be redecorating my space. If you have kids, you know how hard they can be on a house and my walls are a mess! Now’s the perfect time to freshen things up.

I’m starting off tomorrow morning with a 3-mile run and a nice, relaxing facial.

What do you have on tap for the weekend?

Whatever it is, enjoy it and take a lesson from that OldGirl LadyLee and do it on purpose!

Hey Oldgirl, I want some of mac and cheese and some of those greens! I don't mind picking and eating around the neckbones. Whatever!

Last dead battery story (6 months ago)-- Pam's battery died, Lil' Sis came and scooped me up, we went to Advance and got a battery, changed out the battery and then I went and bought Lucy the same day. Not sure if that is a good strategy that bears repeating often, but it allll worked out well that day, lol.

Now about this mexican cheescake... hmmm. Sounds delicious. And quite spicy.

Nothing much going on this weekend. Cleaning the house, cutting the grass, might hang out with some friends. All I know is that I'm going to enjoy it... ON PURPOSE. lol

That meal sounds GOOD. Believe it or not, I found a pairing for fried chicken :) I did not properly appreciate my male relative roadside assistance until I moved on the other side of the country :)
