Monday Again

I woke up this morning feeling hung over – and I can’t remember the last time I had alcohol.  Probably recovering from a sugar coma.  I gave myself a break on Mother’s Day which means I ate whatever I wanted and did whatever I wanted.  The day started with me mowing the lawn.  Yes, that is what I wanted.  My son surprised me and came home for Mother’s Day but he came home in flip flops and couldn’t do any yard work.  Which was perfectly fine because I need to accept that yard work is my new normal.

After the lawn was completed, we (me, my son and daughter) watched The Lion King and then we met my mother for brunch.  We had the best time.  I had egg whites, ham, goat cheese grits and a mini pecan pie with whipped cream and chocolate sauce.  It was amazing.

Then the kids and I chilled at the house for a while before we went to the movies to see the new Captain American movie.  Highly recommend this flick if you’re into that sort of thing.  Lots of action and a few laughs too.  This was the best Mother’s Day ever.  They actually get better each year.

Now it’s Monday and I just finished my workout and I’m contemplating the day while my cat, Portia snoozes in my lap.

My car is at the dealer’s for maintenance and has been since Thursday.  Hopefully, it will be finished sometime today.

I have three clients to work with at the fitness center this week.  One of the other trainers at the center is leaving and she is responsible for teaching a functional fitness class.  Once she leaves, at the end of this week, it will be my responsibility to teach the class.  I was concerned initially because we have two totally different teaching styles and I wasn’t really sure if her students would receive a new instructor in a positive way.  Then I stopped worrying – either they will stick with the class or they won’t.  I can’t worry about things that I can’t control I can only do my best and let the chips fall.

I should be hearing something soon about the position that I applied for with the YMCA.  I have been interviewed and they have contacted my references.  I’ll be receiving information regarding next steps later this week.  It’s about to get very busy around here.  I love it!

My commitment with the communications network is about to end on the 21st.  I had a conversation with the Program Director and he asked me to consider signing on with them for a longer period of time to help with their health initiative by doing other fitness classes, speaking and appearing at various events – for free.  I’m really not sure what I get out of that arrangement other than exposure.  Exposure is fine but it’s not paying my mortgage – that’s what I told him.  I don’t know what to do.   There are pros and cons:

Pro
I need a network to help me get where I want to go professionally.  I can’t do it all alone.
Over time, exposure will pay dividends
The best way to get people to know, like, trust and eventually buy from you is to give them good content – for FREE

Con:
There may be a slight personality conflict between me and the Program Director
I will have to give up a certain amount of control when it comes to my “brand”
I do feel some kind of way about giving away so much of my time

I’m hesitating because I’ve learned my lesson about being impulsive when it comes to my business.  I’m praying constantly and asking God to let me know if this is something that I should do and to give me peace about the situation.  I’m going to ask the Program Director to send me something in writing which details specifically the terms of the agreement, my responsibilities, their responsibilities, etc.  Seeing it in writing will help me to make a good decision.  He spent a lot of time talking to me but honestly, at the end of the conversation I don’t feel like he actually said anything.  It all sounded like a bunch of hype and I don’t need hype I need someone to give it to me straight.  He’s not making this offer because he cares so much about me and my business – he benefits because he gets my time, credentials and expertise for free.  What do I get?

Okay, I’m done.  Enjoy your Monday.

One more thing:  I'm learning to speak Italian!  I'm using the Duolingo app and I practice for about 30 minutes each day.  I'm loving it because in addition to preparing me for my trip to Italy I'm also challenging myself in a new way.  I believe that the strategies we use to keep our bodies strong should also be employed to keep our minds strong.  Ciao!

I downloaded the Duolingo app on my phone to brush up on Spanish since I am back in Texas. I need to commit daily to actually learn the language.

The family picture is nice. I think the last time I read your blog & you had a pic of you son he didn't have a beard. They grow up so fast it seems.
