10th Time's a Charm?

At the beginning of 2016 I started looking for employment in the fitness industry because I realized that I was not bringing in enough money from my small business to live.  Sad but true.  One thing I’ve learned on this journey is that there are no failures – only lessons.

In February, I secured a part-time position as a Fitness Specialist working for the City of Norfolk.  I love this job because I get to work with people (either one-on-one or in a group setting) who truly want to improve their health and fitness.   In the spring, I also picked up another part-time position at the YMCA as a coach, group exercise instructor and an on-duty manager.  I’m getting a lot of experience at these two very different facilities and I’m enjoying it.  However, the reality is I would rather work a full-time job instead of a bunch of part-time jobs.

Over the past year I have submitted 9 applications to a nationally-recognized fitness club in the area.  Nine.  Seven of the submissions were for a personal trainer position and 2 were for a front desk attendant (clearly I was over qualified for that but I thought I could at least get a foot in the door, right?).  Nine submissions and zero calls for an interview.

Last week I saw an advertisement from this same club for a full time Assistant Fitness Director.  I saw the listing while I was at work so I emailed it to myself so I could check it out later at home.  I read the requirements and it sounded like a good fit and I figured, why not?  After all, you miss 100% of the shots you never take.  At this point, I have absolutely nothing to lose.  I submitted my resume to this organization for the 10th time on Wednesday and on Friday morning I was contacted and asked to come in for an interview on Monday (tomorrow).

If you are reading this and you know how to pray – please stand in agreement with me that I will not walk into this meeting alone; that God’s favor will surround me like a shield (Psalms 5:12)
