Food For Thought

My kids refer to the times when I fed them Hamb.urger Hel.per and Manwich sloppy joes as "the good old days".

I call those the "broke old days".

In my mind, I was really struggling ... but to them we were doing alright.

Interesting.

We had lettuce or tomato sandwiches when I was little. Little did I know that there were times when we couldn't afford meat.

But I was happy then.

A lesson to be content and thankful just where you are. Things will always change for the better!

I recently remembered days where I used to scrape my money together to buy; literally a few large shrimp for lil lady and i so we could have a treat. Now, we can actually go to a restaurant and buy a complete shrimp dinner, but I do miss those days sometimes.

One things for sure though, is that I've never grown too proud and can truly appreciate those days and the humility of them.

Love to live; live to love!

I remember having a similar conversation with my mom years ago. At the time, I didn't know we were dirt poor. In my sheltered little mind, I thought I had the best childhood...ever - with my highwater pants, no name brand sneakers, and PB&J sammiches for dinner.

My BabyGirl is the same way. She is completely unaware of our struggle.

Oh, don't get me started with memories of the "broke old days." I knew we didn't eat like other families with snacks and soda, but my mom was an awesome cook on a tight budget. I recently discovered that gift was passed on to me! ;)
