Are You Trendy?

I am and will probably always be the last person to grab onto a trend. I will never be part of the group that has to have the latest this or the newest that.

I don't have a smart phone, an iPad, an e-reader or a laptop. That's right, I don't own a laptop. It took me until June 2010 to upgrade my phone to a Blackberry and that was just because I wanted a phone with a QWERTY keyboard. Both my son and daughter have "better" phones than I do. My daughter has an iTouch, while I still use my iPod Shuffle. My son has a laptop and my daughter will probably have one in September. I don't make them stay in the dark ages, but I'm quite comfortable there.

I don't really have any reasoning behind it, it's just that I don't care enough to be part of the crowd. If it means that I have to be seperated from my money, I think twice. Do I really NEED this thing? Is it really necessary to make my life better? Isn't the one I have good enough? It's not that I'm cheap. I spend my money on things that I really want (i.e. nice shoes, good wine) but to spend dough on stuff because it's the newest thing ... that's just not me.

I bring this up because for the past few years my eldest has been trying to convince me to upgrade the television in the living room. During that time, he has purchased two flat screens for his bedroom (the first one broke after a while), and I've been quite content with my regular tube television. It works so what is the big deal? Finally, yesterday after yet another sales pitch from my kid, we went and picked out a new flat screen. He hooked it all up for me and the picture is beautiful. True Blood in HD is amazing. Okay, the television enhances my viewing experience but do I really need to be sitting in front of the television that much? **shrugs**

I don't regret the purchase. It's a really nice television and now my kids don't feel like they are so far behind the times.

Well, I don't have a flat screen. I have no idea why. I say i'm going to buy one every year and just don't but I do have a smart phone,2 Ipods and a Mac laptop. I haven't had a desktop since Commodore 64 was cool.....lol!
I don't have an e-reader either and I don't want one. I love the feeling of books between my fingers. I'm thinking on getting an IPad but think it may be overkill since I have a Mac. We'll see....

Maybe I'll buy a flatscreen next month so I can watch football in HD!

LOL. My friends and family make fun of me because I don't have much modern stuff. I don't have cable, I still have a landline, I don't have a new fangled phone. Heck I don't even have texting. My bill is like $30 bucks.

I do have a Sony MP3 player, I had a netbook(it died in less than a yr), a kindle. I just bought myself a flatscreen after my 20 year old TV died. Oh yeah I have Netflix which streams through my Internet and my daughter's Wii.

I will be getting a new phone. I love my Kindle and MP3 the most. I will fall out over those. The phone I really don't feel like getting but the old one is just about out.

All in all, I dip my toes in the new stuff, I just don't jump on all this stuff that changes day to day.

I am soooo not trendy! I will keep a car, electronics, etc until they are far beyond repair! LOL.

I tend to buy classic quality clothing that withstand ANY trend, pencil skirts, nice dresses, white shirts etc.

I too think twice about parting with my "duckets"

I usually take care of stuff so it lasts a while and it means I end up not replacing it until it breaks. I still have a regular tube tv. When it gives up the ghost, I'm sure my husband will be dancing in the streets. :)

I definitely have a laptop, because wireless is wonderful. I recently got a netbook, because I have moments when I travel quite a bit.

But I didn't do the phone upgrade until mine was falling apart. I probably wouldn't have the android phone that I have now if my son hadn't convinced me. And now I don't know how I lived without it.

The flat screen that I have is my son's he left it with me while he is deployed. Beautiful picture, so I'll either buy one for myself when he gets back, or get to keep his because something better is out & he'll think his is too old.
