Friday Reflections

Thirty-one days and we can kiss 2012 goodbye! Did you get done all that you wanted to? Did you meet your goals? Did you set any? The end of the year and my birthday always cause me to sit and reflect over where I’ve been and where I’m going. It’s sobering.

I look at my life today and I swear it doesn’t even come close to resembling my life this time last year. So much has happened. I’ll detail all the haps in a future post.

One thing that has happened that really amazes me is my newfound passion for everything fitness. How did that even happen? I mean, back in 2011 when I decided to start running the intent was to maintain my weight so I could continue to eat whatever I wanted. Then running became a passion and something that I really cannot live without. I’m no “speed demon” and marathons are not in my future but I do enjoy the sport and it is a very effective form of exercise. In my opinion.

Now it’s evolved into something entirely different. It’s no longer about maintaining my weight, now it’s about improving my health. I’m paying more attention to my diet and have incorporated strength training into my weekly routine. I surprised myself with how easy the diet part has been because you know how much I love food. Fried chicken and Italian food are my weaknesses and I’ve successfully stayed away from both and haven’t had cravings or felt deprived. Yay me! I’ve been at this for five weeks and each week I love it a little more. It’s painful and challenging and this pic doesn’t look like it but I really do love it.

It’s part of me now. I recently purchased this book which provides detailed information on nutrition and weight training. It’s very informative and anything that I can read to help me on this journey is a blessing.

I’ve often scolded myself for doing things half-assed but not this time. I’m moving ahead full force because I know I won’t reach the goal unless I do. I still haven’t decided on whether or not to hire another trainer. I still have two weeks, or 6 sessions, with my current one and I’m going to make the most of it. I enjoy watching my body change and documenting the transformation with photos and videos is really helpful. I’m not only working toward a specific “goal body” but I’m working to create a healthier lifestyle and I have never felt better.
