The Results – OCB Beach Classic 2013

My first figure competition has come and gone and it was truly the most amazing experience.  I honestly didn’t expect it to overwhelm me the way that it did.  I can’t explain it.  Until you’ve worn a bikini and 5-inch heels for more than 12 hours you haven’t lived.  I stayed covered up most of the time while we were backstage and only shed my warm up suit and flip flops when I was about to go on stage.  Unlike most of the other competitors who just waited in their bikinis.  I found that odd.

On Thursday before the competition I had to take a polygraph test.  This is the form of drug testing for the OCB and other Natural events.  Then on Friday I was scheduled to get my tan for the show.  I had to get spray tanned with something that resembled a pressure washer.  I have to tell you, if there was ever any modesty in me it is completely gone after that process.  Butt naked in front of total strangers … yeah.  Two coats of tan and then standing in front of white box fans until dry.

Then it was show day.  I got up early on Saturday and had oatmeal and 3 ounces of chicken breast for breakfast.  I finished packing my meals for the day and everything that I would need and I was on my way.

I enjoyed meeting the other competitors and hanging out with the girls that I see at the gym every day.  It was a first show for all of us and sharing that experience with someone who knows exactly what you’re going through is very comforting and helped to keep me calm.

For the most part, I wasn’t really that nervous.  I was more anxious than anything … just ready to get it done.  Finally, it was time to take the stage for the pre-judging.  My division, Figure, was the last division to get on stage.  I competed against one other woman in the Novice Tall class; 4 other women in the Masters (40+) class; and 6 other women in the Open Tall class.  I walked out on stage three different times and had to stand in front of the judges and the audience and each time seemed to get easier.    I had the best time.

Then it was time for the evening show.  I did the stage routine that I had been practicing for the last six weeks or so.  It wasn’t perfect and I had to make some modifications because the floor seemed a little slippery and I didn’t want to stumble.  My posing coach and my family said it looked fine and they didn’t notice anything different.

By time the awards were announced we had been at the venue for more than 12 hours and I was more than ready to wrap this thing up.

The results

1st Place – Novice Tall
2nd Place – Masters Tall
2nd Place – Open Tall

Not too shabby for my first show.

But I can do better.  Stay tuned.
