Overheard at the Kingdom

Overheard at the Kingdom while watching the BET Awards:

While Alicia Keys was performing:

No one, no one, no one
Can get in the way of what I'm feeling
No one, no one, no one
Can get in the way of what I feel for you

Princess: Not even someone's wife

While CBreezy was performing:

Prince: I'm about cry too. Real talk.

Queen: Isn't it time to turn to TrueBLOOD?

Just a typical Sunday night in the Kingdom

Overheard

"I'm sorry ... women who are too aggressive are just not attractive!" -- some guy who really shouldn't talk so loud so early in the morning.

Is that true? I guess it's different for everybody.

Overheard at the Kingdom

Last Night:

Prince: Mom, before you guys leave the house tomorrow wake me up and tell me to cut the grass. Say it in your mean voice. Don't be like (in mocking tone of voice) Honey, time to get up ... and don't forget to cut the grass today, Sweetie. Ok?

Queen: Ok.

This Morning:

Queen (in mean voice): Boy we're about to leave, get up and go cut the grass! Do it now because I don't want to hear your mouth talkin' about it got too hot outside. And I bet not come home today and see that grass not cut! And make sure you get the weeds in the flower bed!

Queen (in normal voice): How was that?

Prince: I got you.

Note: "I got you" is what he said when I told him to cut the grass on Sunday.

The Pretty Ones

Overheard at the Kingdom:

Prince: So me and S______ aren't talking anymore.

Queen: I figured as much. I haven't seen her around for a few weeks. What happened?

Prince: Ma, she's a pathological liar. She would just lie about the dumbest things for absolutely no reason. She was crazy. Why are the pretty ones always crazy?

Queen: I don't know.

Prince: You're pretty, ma. But you're not crazy.

Queen: No. I'm just mean.

Prince: Yeah you are. But you're not crazy.

Seriously, why are the pretty ones always crazy?

Overheard at the Kingdom

Princess: You know what I just figured out?

Queen: What?

Princess: Girls shouldn't waste their time crying over a boy who wouldn't cry over them.

Queen: You got that right.

Apparently, the Princess was texting one of her girlfriends who was in fact, crying over some boy who asked her out. She later found out he had a girlfriend.

I wonder if this lesson will stay with my 14-year old or if she too will shed those same tears.

Overheard

"I've already packed up my briefcase. I have never been more humiliated in my entire life!" and then ... "I may not do that, but I just might be sick tomorrow. Okay, I love you."

While sitting in my office yesterday minding my own business, my ears were assaulted with the above conversation. One of my co-workers was on the phone with his wife. He was truly pissed. He didn't storm out of the building with his packed briefcase despite the humiliation that he endured. I don't know if he called in sick today because I'm off for the rest of the week. Guess I'll find out on Monday. I wonder what his loving, supporting wife said to herself after they hung up the phone. I remember when my guy was working a nine-to-five and absolutely hated it and wanted to quit. I encouraged him to. Of course, I wasn't depending on him to keep my lights on, so it was all good. It has taken me one solid year to be comfortable at my job. I'm still not in love with it but I'm comfortable with it. I know what my responsibilities are and I know how I want my future to look so this job is a means to an end. Know what I mean?

My first born is graduating today and he's been in a mood. Subdued, quiet. He's so much like me it's sickening. When something huge is about to happen (like when I published my novel), I was so excited I couldn't speak. Sometimes I'm so overwhelmed and filled with joy it renders me speechless. Is anyone else like that? I watch everything that is going on around me but I can't say a word. Anyway, I'm proud of my baby. My niece is also graduating this weekend. My sister made a slideshow of her first eighteen years on the planet ... I wish I could be that creative, or that thoughtful ... Today is going to be one emotional day. I remember when my son graduated from kindergarten ... people in the audience were throwing tissues at me. Today will probably be more of the same. I'll post some pics this weekend.

I better get myself together.

Overheard in the Parking Lot

"I do not begrudge you the career that you've chosen. In fact, I believe I was the one who encouraged you to take that path. I accept the fact that it leaves little time for us. However, when we do have a moment together it pisses me off that the littlest thing will distract you from being WITH me. You just don't get it and you probably never will. The time we have is valuable and it means so much to me. So if I don't see you for six days and on the seventh day you treat me like everyone else in the room ... yeah I'm gonna be pissy. I'm gonna be pissy."
